BACKGROUND & HISTORY: Lily, who thinks her first name is pretentious, is the daughter of a powerful matriarch who watched over her Rome-based community like a hawk. Growing a siren enclave in the shadow of the Vatican was a delicate balance of politics, personality and backroom dealing and Isabella Abbadelli did not tolerate troublemakers. So of course, the biggest one turned out to be her own daughter, whose defiant streak came straight from her father, a British punk musician Telly St. George.
Her childhood was spent primarily with her mother, but as she approached her teens arguments between the two often ended in Lily being sent to stay with her father, wherever he was at the time. He and his bandmates were her second family, teaching her to question everything, make her own decisions and teaching her by example instead of by dictation. More importantly, she felt like she was allowed to make mistakes and experiment and while there were rules to be sure, they were nothing like the ones in her mother’s home. So long as she kept her grades up and didn’t harm anyone, she was free to do whatever she wanted.
Photography became a passion, both in front of and behind the camera and as she grew older, she worked on more and more risque subjects. Moving to New York at eighteen against her mother’s wishes, she joined up with a group of artists that explored the complicated relationships between feminism and sex and she gained a fair amount of celebrity modeling for a series of photos called Ending the Era. The photos featured her as a pinup-inspired reaper without a face binding 50’s style housewives and then ferrying them to a variety of new identities from soldier to student to working mother. The final photo was the reborn women binding her in turn, leaving her transformation up to the audience.
Critics either hated or adored the project, but Lily didn’t care. She’d been praised overall as the faceless model and that in and of itself lead to more and better paying modeling work. Using female reaper image as a logo she and her friends eventually launched a small production company, The Reaper Dolls, that specialized in risque but sex-positive photography (think a gothier Suicide Girls). Working behind and in front of the camera, Lily loved the control and the freedom to explore her art and she found that she could use her siren abilities to get better sessions out of her models and photographers. For years, they were the “it girls” of modern pin-up photography but the fame took a toll.
Drug use had been a common among her father’s friends and he, himself was no stranger. While she lived with him, he allowed what amounted to supervised experimentation but when her career took off and the parties started she found herself sinking deeper and deeper. Her drug of choice was usually oxy, and as a siren it was relatively easy to waltz into any doctor office and leave with a prescription. She managed her addiction for years, but eventually it caught up with her. Her longtime lover left her and her business relationships became strained. She didn’t photograph or model as much and when she did, her pictures lacked the passion of her previous work. Even her abilities as a siren suffered and became unpredictable depending on how high she was at a given time.
Rock bottom came with an accidental overdose. When she woke up in the hospital, her father was there, but by the time she checked out he was gone. In his place was her mother who promptly sang her into rehab more or less against her will. She was furious at them both and almost left, but it was her father that convinced her to stay, promising that if she got clean, he would, too. In the beginning that was the only reason she stayed.
Now that she’s completed the program, she’s stuck figuring out the rest of her life. The Dolls put her on an indefinite hiatus from the business when she went into rehab, but have started talking about buying her out. The NYPD is investigating how she got the drugs that lead to her overdose and what, if any, charges could be brought against her or the doctor she got the latest prescriptions off of. And last, but not least, her beloved father recently suffered a heart attack. He’d fallen on the hard times of an old rocker and she’s paying all of his bills.
With his bills, her lawyers and only miniscule residuals coming in from the Dolls she’s almost broke which is the only reason she even considered taking her mother’s offer. Isabella would pay for Lily’s rent and living expenses (within reason) but only if she stayed clean, moved to Siren Cove for a year, and took the Dolls up on their offer to buy her out. For her father, Lily did it.
Now stuck in Siren Cove with no career, no friends, and no prospects, Lily gets to contemplate both her newfound sobriety and why the fuck her mother chose Siren Cove of all places to ship her off to.
PERSONALITY: Lily is currently a basket case. Her life has been tossed completely upside down. She’s worried about her future, her father, her mother’s plans, her sobriety, everything. For all that she’s supposed to be taking it one day at a time she often gets anxious to the point of having anxiety attacks when she’s alone and can’t stop herself from worrying. From living her life on her own terms, she suddenly beholden to her mother’s, a state she hasn’t been in since she was a child.
It’s left her resentful and likely to come off as distant or belligerent and while she doesn’t like that part of herself she hasn’t figured out yet how to turn it off. After years of living wild and free, she suddenly feels caged and digging in her heels is the only way she knows how to deal. However, once someone gets to know her, they may discover that she’s passionate and articulate and always open to new things.
OPINION OF THE RIVALRY: Lily is oblivious to the whole thing and if/when she does find out about it, she won’t care.
LIFESTYLE: Lily loves a good party, but her hard partying days are (hopefully) behind her. Still she likes being the center of attention, and being social so she tries to get out as much as she can. She almost always has a camera with her and loves taking pictures of people in their element, free and doing what they love, whatever that is. Whatever her life in Siren Cove may be, it will involve the arts and photography.
For now she’s living in a small rental home paid for by her mother, it’s far less grand than the apartment she had in New York, but anyone who visits will see that she’s packed it with the photographs she’s taken. Everything from the models that make up the Reaper Dolls, to scenes from the streets of NY, there’s barely an inch of spare wallspace.
POWERS & ABILITIES: As a siren, Lily has the ability to influence the actions of others with her voice. In the past she’s used the ability to bring the best out of her models, getting them to relax and enjoy themselves of they were nervous or push themselves if they were hesitant. She also wasn’t shy about using her gift to feed her habit, talking doctors all over New York to write her prescriptions.
When in the water, her hands and feet web and her body is covered by blue-black obsidian scales, but her legs stay separate (like this). Her nails elongate to claws and her teeth sharpen, and white she doesn’t like to, she can partially transform out of water if threatened.
